Mobile Emergency Alerts

Internship.
This is a project about exploring potentials of the mobile interface for emergency alerts, and how information can be gathered and found in one place. Depending on the crises that arises, people seek different types of information. Stress levels and acuteness affects people’s tendencies when seeking out updates about a situation during emergencies.
Our concept proposal seeks to make information adaptable and more user-friendly for those on the recieving end of the alert. Additionally, we proposed how the workers at the operational center can leverage the ”Everbridge”-plattform more efficiently - resulting in a module-based concept.
Our team consisted of two designers and three developers.
To ensure that our team was coordinated from the beginning we all participated on the insight and ideation phase, and divided tasks for the developing phase.
For insight we guerilla tested and had interviews with representatives from the Police Directorate, and the Directorate for Social Security and Emergency Preparedness (DSB).

Paper prototypes.With cards containing various content types, we gave our testers 3-4 scenarios and asked them to pick out the cards they found most relevant in each scenario.

Today, there are no collection page on the police’s website for the public to get crucial information from in cases of emergency, leading people to seek other sources for information. Additionally, depending on the type of emergency, some of the user feedback suggested that people would like to get some advice on what actions they can take.
Our concept incorporates the Police’s own app for sending out messages to the public from the official operational centers, called Politiloggen.
The purpose of this, as with the other modules, is to provide the user with only essential information during a crises. Not all modules are relevant in all types of scenarios, but this will be operated by the workers at the operational center by utilizing a category system which already exists on Everbridge - a platform used for alerts today.
