The clinicians, researchers and admin department at Sunnaas Hospital will undergo a change in their office structures by 2028, forcing their staff to adapt to flexible working stations. Such innovation projects are not new to the hospital staff, yet we found that this causes internal stress and innovation fatigue among their workers.

Pills for Change seeks to cultivate a more balanced internal communication dynamic through weekly feedback activities. For the busy clinical staff with hectic schedules, we propose three different levels and means for staying updated, involved, and a space where they can give direct feedback to the project managers.

We visited the hospital with prepared material for shadowing and interviews with staff members, leaders, project manager, and later the communication department.

We did two rounds of workshops: The first one to map out the workplace dynamic between departments with ”How Might We’s”, and a second workshop to test our concept for user feedback.

First workshop: Gather insight.
Second workshop: Testing our concept.

A part of our process was to utilize some of Designit’s Do No Harm framework to reflect upon our project’s impact on the workers at Sunnaas, mapping out potential risks and reflecting around them as a group.

Our solution is utilizing the hospital’s Intranet for informing the staff about which activity is coming up when.

The activities go in cycles, each one requiring different levels of participation, offering engagement flexibility.

Take a look at our poster:

Staff should stay in-the-loop!

By integrating the communication department into the internal communication system at Sunnaas, Pills for Change proposes how a feedback loop can ensure staff involvement during all phases of project developments.
